Saudi Film Commission to Showcase at 2026 Cannes Film Festival

Cannes: The Film Commission has announced its participation in the 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, unveiling a comprehensive program that underscores the swift advancement of the Saudi film industry. This engagement reinforces Saudi Arabia's burgeoning presence on international cinematic platforms and strengthens its status as a global hub for filmmaking.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the commission will be represented at the festival through the Saudi pavilion, which will host various government entities, private sector organizations, and non-profit institutions. This involvement in the festival, scheduled from May 12 to 23, 2026, includes an official delegation from the commission and the participation of Saudi filmmakers in specialized panel discussions, networking events, and a roundtable discussion on significant transformations in content creation.

The Cannes Film Festival, held annually in Cannes, France, since 1946, is recognized as one of the world's premier film festivals. It serves as a crucial platform for showcasing new productions and connecting leading filmmakers, producers, and investors globally.

A JAX Studios session on May 14 will spotlight Saudi Arabia's advanced production capabilities and integrated infrastructure, seeking collaboration from local and international partners. On May 15, two significant events are planned: a panel discussion titled 'The Kingdom of Cinematic Treasures' will delve into the rapid expansion of Saudi Arabia's film sector, highlighting opportunities for filmmakers, including financing systems and international partnerships. Additionally, a networking event, "Cinematic Exchange, Saudi Brunch," will bring together global film industry experts and their Saudi counterparts.

On May 17, the Film Commission will host a roundtable discussion titled "Embracing the Creators' Economy," focusing on the swift changes in the digital content industry and how content creators are transitioning into filmmaking.

This participation builds on the commission's increasing presence in international film forums, following its involvement in 16 regional and global film festivals during 2025. These engagements aim to elevate the Kingdom's position as an international creative destination, support national talent and industry professionals, and foster collaboration between filmmakers and international partners.
