Riyadh: The World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) has officially declared the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia free of equine viral arteritis (EVA) after the Kingdom fulfilled the technical requirements and international standards for declaring countries free of animal diseases. This milestone was achieved after thorough evaluations and efforts by Saudi authorities to meet the necessary criteria.
According to Saudi Press Agency, this official recognition followed WOAH's evaluation of the technical file prepared by the National Center for the Prevention and Control of Plants Pests and Animal Diseases (Weqaa Center). The file included comprehensive details on the surveillance and preventive measures, as well as epidemiological monitoring programs that were applied across the Kingdom. These measures were in strict compliance with WOAH's requirements and standards, ensuring effective disease prevention and control.
This international recognition reflects the level of progress in the Kingdom's animal health services. It also strengthens the credibility of Saudi Arabia's veterinary procedures on an international level, particularly in the areas of disease prevention and control. The successful eradication of equine viral arteritis not only boosts confidence in the Kingdom's animal health protocols but also sets a benchmark for other nations aiming to achieve similar disease-free status.
