King Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Joins Forces with Conservation Foundation for Houbara Preservation

Riyadh: The King Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Development Authority has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Foundation for Houbara Conservation. This partnership aims to bolster national efforts to protect the houbara bustard and facilitate its reintroduction into its natural habitats, thereby contributing to the sustainability of ecosystems throughout the Kingdom.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the MoU emphasizes the development of specialized programs designed to reintroduce the houbara bustard into its natural environments within the King Abdulaziz Royal Reserve. The collaboration will harness scientific and technical expertise in areas such as breeding, release, monitoring, and tracking programs to ensure the successful reestablishment of the species.

The agreement further aims to provide a secure and sustainable environment for the houbara bustard by establishing appropriate movement corridors and mitigating potential threats, including those related to power lines. Additionally, it seeks to enhance public awareness regarding the importance of wildlife conservation and the fight against illegal hunting.

The houbara bustard is of significant environmental and cultural importance in the Kingdom and the broader Arabian Peninsula, playing a crucial role in preserving the natural balance of desert ecosystems. Initiatives to restore its wild populations are among the Kingdom's key national efforts to improve biodiversity and safeguard native species.
