Riyadh: Work began today on the fourth phase of implementing residential and commercial architectural design guidelines in Saudi Arabia, extending to several cities and governorates across Riyadh, Makkah, and Northern Borders regions, as well as the city of Tabuk. This initiative is part of the Saudi Architecture Characters Map.
According to Saudi Press Agency, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Saudi Architectural Design Guidelines, launched the Saudi Architecture Map in March 2025. This was part of efforts to strengthen national architectural identity, enhance quality of life, and improve the urban landscape across the Kingdom's cities, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
The map includes 19 architectural styles inspired by the Kingdom's geographical and cultural characteristics. These styles were identified through urban and historical studies that reflect a building heritage passed down through generations, embodying the spirit of place and its people.
