Saudi Television: A Legacy of Communication and Cultural Influence

Riyadh: World Television Day, observed on November 21, celebrates the powerful medium for reaching diverse audiences and providing credible content that supports societal development. The day highlights the vital role of television in disseminating knowledge, promoting awareness, and fostering dialogue, and encourages media organizations to innovate while upholding professional standards.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Saudi Television, a cornerstone of national media, launched on July 7, 1965, with the Al-Saudiya channel under King Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. This initiative allowed the state to connect with citizens and the world, reflecting a commitment to enhancing communication and cultural values.

Over 60 years later, Saudi Television continues to blend tradition with modernization, adapting to technological advancements while maintaining its reputation as a trusted platform. Initial broadcasts from Riyadh and Jeddah focused on religious and cultural content, including Quran recitations.

Aligned with Saudi Vision 2030, the media sector is prioritized for transformation, with development aligned with societal changes. Saudi Television has consistently mirrored these shifts, effectively conveying the Kingdom’s message both domestically and internationally.
