Geneva: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP), is actively participating in the Assemblies of the Member States of WIPO: Sixty-Sixth Series of Meetings at its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, from July 8 to 17. The Saudi delegation is being led by SAIP Chief Executive Officer Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Swailem.
According to Saudi Press Agency, in his opening remarks, Dr. Al-Swailem extended congratulations to the director-general and expressed support for the Asia Pacific Group’s statement. He commended the adoption of the Riyadh Design Law Treaty (RDLT) at the Diplomatic Conference, which saw participation from 151 countries, describing it as a significant milestone.
Dr. Al-Swailem announced several key developments in Saudi Arabia’s intellectual-property landscape, including the deposit of accession to the Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement in January, the launch of operations as an International Searching and Preliminary Examining Authority, and the introduction of a Mediation Service for resolving intellectual-property disputes.
Additionally, Dr. Al-Swailem highlighted the activation of the Saudi Fund-in-Trust (SAFIT) to aid developing countries in building their intellectual-property capabilities. He also noted Saudi Arabia’s successful proposal for an annual Intellectual Property Examiner Day on November 11 and introduced a new proposal for guidelines on examiner professional ethics.
He concluded his address by underscoring the significance of adopting Arabic as a working language in the Madrid and Hague systems to foster multilingualism and empower Arab nations.
Saudi Arabia has been a member of WIPO since 1982, with SAIP’s active involvement enabling the Kingdom to stay abreast of intellectual-property developments across various fields.
