Saudi Arabia Engages in UNESCO Executive Board Session

Paris: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is actively participating in the 221st session of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Executive Board. Represented by its permanent delegation, the Kingdom began its involvement with the session’s opening on April 7 at UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the Saudi National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, alongside several national entities, is also involved in this session, which is scheduled to continue until April 17. The delegation is led by Dr. Abdulelah bin Ali Al-Tokhais, Saudi Arabian Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, who delivered an address in front of Executive Board member states, the chairperson of the board, the president of the General Conference, and UNESCO’s director-general.

Dr. Al-Tokhais emphasized the long-standing relationship between Saudi Arabia and UNESCO, pointing out that the Kingdom was among the first nations to join the UN Charter in 1945. He acknowledged the cooperative efforts between the Kingdom and the organization, particularly highlighting the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, which paved the way for Saudi Arabia to host the sixth International Conference on Learning Cities (ICLC 6) under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
