Riyadh: Thirty-nine new wildfires broke out in forests across the Hellenic Republic today, with the most severe on Salamis Island off the coast of Athens. Authorities attributed the fires to persistent drought, noting that temperatures in central Athens reached 40 degrees Celsius.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the current heat wave is expected to continue until early next week.
