Buraydah: Governor of the Qassim Region Prince Dr. Faisal bin Mishaal bin Saud bin Abdulaziz launched here yesterday an initiative to plant a million trees in the Qassim Region by the end of 2024 in an ongoing effort to achieve sustainable environmental development and increase the green area.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the initiative was launched at the Qassim National Park in Buraydah city, in collaboration with all government agencies and the non-profit sector. This effort aims to promote environmental sustainability and develop vegetation cover in the region in line with the Saudi Green Initiative and the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
Prince Faisal expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, as well as the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC), for their contributions to restoring vegetation cover in the national parks.
NCVC Director Major General Ali Al-Asmari stated that the initiative includes the cultivation of 5 million
seedlings until 2030 to enhance vegetation cover and achieve environmental equilibrium. Al-Asmari also highlighted the NCVC’s cultivation efforts across various locations in the region. In the Qassim National Park, 1 million seedlings were planted, including varieties such as Arta (Calligonum), Ghadha, Ethel (Tamarix), Qarath (Acacia), Ghaf (Prosopis), Remth (Haloxylon), Arak (Salvadora Persica), Salam (Acacia Ehrenbergiana), and Samar (Acacia Nilotica). Additionally, 120,000 seedlings were planted in the Unayzah forest.
