Olive trees hold a special place in Palestinian culture, symbolizing goodness, blessings, and peace. They are integral to daily life, with nearly every Palestinian home having olive wood art or furniture. Palestinians have traditionally used olive trees for their leaves, fruit, and wood.
Both green and black olives are common food sources, and the flammable olive oil is widely used for cooking and heating.
Palestinians have found ways to utilize the remnants of olive pressing, producing paper and cardboard out of it.
One young woman, Maithalon Sabbagh, patented the creation of eco-friendly paper and cardboard products from these leftovers. By extracting cellulose from remnants of olive pressing, she has developed packaging materials as substitutes for nylon and plastic bags.
The olive tree, representing tradition and authenticity, inspires innovation among Palestinian youths. Following the olive harvest season, from mid-October to early November, young Palestinians in different cities creatively repurpos
e the olive tree and its byproducts. These innovations contribute to the Palestinian economy, highlighting the importance of the olive tree in Palestinian society.
