Makassar: The Makkah Route Initiative team at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport is operating with high efficiency to streamline the departure of Indonesian pilgrims to Madinah, enabling them to complete Saudi entry procedures, including passport control, customs, and baggage coding, at their home airport and ensuring a seamless transition upon arrival in the Kingdom.
According to Saudi Press Agency, Indonesian pilgrims departing through the Makassar port praised the meticulous organization, noting that it significantly reduces waiting times and allows them to focus on their spiritual journey. This year, the initiative has expanded to 17 international ports across 10 countries, reflecting the Kingdom's commitment under Vision 2030 to elevate Hajj services to the highest international standards.
The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority provides the critical digital infrastructure for the initiative, deploying state-of-the-art devices and AI-driven systems to ensure procedural accuracy and uninterrupted performance. Specialized technical teams manage these systems to facilitate a smooth flow of pilgrims from their home countries directly to their accommodations in Makkah and Madinah.
Now in its eighth year, the Ministry of Interior implements the Makkah Route Initiative in collaboration with several government agencies. Since its launch in 2017, the program has served 1,254,994 pilgrims, reinforcing Saudi Arabia's leading role in harnessing innovation to serve the Two Holy Mosques and their visitors.
