Imam Turki Bin Abdullah Royal Reserve Hosts Unique Plant Diversity Enhancing Ecological Balance and Natural Resource Sustainability

Jeddah: The Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Nature Reserve is one of the Kingdom's most prominent nature reserves, distinguished by its rich and unique plant diversity, which has contributed to the development of an integrated ecosystem. The reserve reflects the abundance of vegetation in desert and semi-desert environments and plays a pivotal role in protecting natural resources and promoting environmental sustainability.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the reserve is home to a wide variety of plants and trees, including perennial species, forage plants, and seasonal vegetation, giving it considerable ecological value and serving as a natural habitat for numerous wildlife species. Among its most prominent perennial trees are talh (acacia), wild sidr, awsaj (boxthorn), and arta, which form key components of the vegetation cover and are distinguished by their ability to adapt to desert climatic conditions.

Moreover, important forage plants are widespread across the reserve, including arfaj, ramth, qaysoum, and shih, all of which are well adapted to arid environments. These plants help maintain ecological balance and preserve the soil's natural characteristics, while also serving as an important food source for many living organisms.

During the rainy seasons, the reserve experiences the growth of several seasonal plants, including lavender, clover, chamomile (oxeye daisy), and garden cress. These plants enhance the natural landscape, adding visual appeal and biodiversity that strengthen the ecosystem and increase the area's attractiveness to visitors and nature enthusiasts.

Plants spread across the reserve perform multiple ecological functions, including providing food sources and suitable habitats for wildlife, and helping combat desertification by stabilizing soil and enhancing vegetation cover. They also contribute to maintaining ecological balance and biodiversity, while protecting soil from erosion and ensuring the sustainability of natural resources for future generations.

This rich plant diversity highlights the reserve's efforts to preserve and develop natural ecosystems in line with Saudi Arabia's environmental protection and sustainability goals, balancing resource conservation with ecological development, and supporting the continuity of wildlife and the preservation of the Kingdom's natural heritage.
