Doha: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Ministerial Council held its 49th extraordinary meeting Tuesday under the chairmanship of Kuwait’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and president of the current session of the Ministerial Council Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al Yahya. The meeting in Doha, Qatar, saw the participation of Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah; United Arab Emirates Minister of Foreign Affairs Shaikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Bahraini Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani; Oman’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidi; Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani; and GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the meeting focused on the Iranian missile attacks that targeted the State of Qatar on Monday. The GCC Ministerial Council expressed its regret and condemnation of the missile attacks carried out by the Islamic Republic of Iran targeting a military base in Qatar. This act was deemed a violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and airspace, as well as principles of good neighborliness and international law. The council expressed its solidarity with Qatar and supported measures for its security and stability.
The council also condemned the ongoing Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip and the killing of civilians. It rejected the military escalation by the occupying authorities and the obstruction of humanitarian aid. The council stressed the need for negotiations to reach a ceasefire and provide assistance to civilians.
The council commended the competencies of the Qatari Armed Forces in confronting the attack by Iran, emphasizing the integral security of GCC states. It reiterated the rejection of any infringement on Qatar’s sovereignty or threats to its security and stability.
The council emphasized adherence to the United Nations Charter, international law, principles of good neighborliness, and peaceful resolution of disputes. It welcomed the ceasefire announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump and commended Qatar’s mediation efforts for regional security and stability. The council called for restraint, diplomacy, and serious negotiations for sustainable solutions.
The council noted the GCC Vision for Regional Security, emphasizing dialogue and diplomacy as the path to overcome crises and preserve regional security. It warned against escalation that could undermine regional security and affect international peace.
The council praised the role of Oman in U.S.-Iran nuclear negotiations and valued efforts by Qatar, the United States, and other countries in de-escalation. It stressed the importance of air, maritime, and waterway security, confronting threats to regional stability, and the commitment to global energy market stability.
