Diriyah: The Diriyah Gate Development Authority celebrated Eid Al-Adha 1446 AH with a vibrant array of events, filling Diriyah with joy and delight. These celebrations shared the festive spirit with residents and visitors, offering them a diverse range of educational and entertainment experiences across various locations in Diriyah.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the festivities began immediately after the Eid prayers, as the aroma of Saudi coffee and the essence of traditional hospitality filled several mosques across Diriyah. This thoughtful gesture reflected the deeply rooted customs of Diriyah, celebrating the spirit of Eid through the exchange of greetings and heartfelt blessings.
In the afternoon, the celebrations continued to flourish in the historic Turaif District and Adhwaihrah, where visitors to Turaif experienced Diriyah’s renowned hospitality, had their names elegantly inscribed in the traditional Diriyah calligraphy, and witnessed captivating horse shows featuring the most renowned purebred Arabian horse breeds.
At Adhwaihrah, a diverse range of engaging events awaited. Its pathways were innovatively designed, drawing inspiration from historical Hajj and caravan routes, including Dirab Road, Aba Al-Qad Road (known today as Al-Qiddiya Road), and Sabaa’ Al-Malaf Road. Along Dirab Road, the ‘Diriyah Taste’ initiative showcased authentic local flavors through stalls offering traditional dishes prepared by families from the Diriyah community.
Aba Al-Qad Road enchanted visitors with interactive traditional games and a special exhibition highlighting the Hajj and caravan routes that traversed Diriyah. This historic path connects to ‘Majlis Diriyah,’ an enduring symbol of Diriyah during Hajj seasons, once a bustling hub for caravans embarking on their sacred pilgrimage to Makkah. On Sabaa’ Al-Malaf Road, visitors captured cherished memories at picturesque photo booths. They honed their skills in enriching henna painting and Diriyah calligraphy workshops, ensuring their Eid in Diriyah was truly unforgettable.
The joyful Eid Al-Adha festivities in Diriyah continued through the second day of Eid, featuring a dedicated children’s zone with workshops designed to ignite young minds through activities such as coloring Diriyah landmarks and crafting greeting cards from natural, local resources. Adults, too, deepened their appreciation for local heritage through insightful workshops, including the ‘Coffee Customs and Etiquette’ session, which illuminated Diriyah’s rich hospitality traditions alongside many other enriching experiences.
