Riyadh: Seven qualifying rounds for local owners were held on Saturday as part of the Melwah competition at the King Abdulaziz Falconry Festival 2025, the world's largest gathering of falcons.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the festival, organized by the Saudi Falcons Club, takes place at its headquarters in Malham, north of Riyadh, and spans from December 25 until January 10. It sees broad participation from both local and international falconers, with the third day's events focused on local competitors. A total of 315 falcons competed across six distinct categories and seven rounds.

The King Abdulaziz Falconry Festival 2025 is set to feature 139 rounds in total, with 1,012 prizes to be awarded. The prizes collectively exceed a value of SAR38 million. This festival plays a significant role in promoting falconry heritage, a tradition recognized by UNESCO in 2010 as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It also aims to bolster Saudi Arabia's reputation as a global hub for falcons and falconers.

By offering a unique 17-day experience that blends sport with cultural heritage, the festival provides an engaging platform for visitors, falconers, and enthusiasts alike.
