The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, headed by Abbas Al-Zamili, Chairman of the Committee, hosted on Thursday, in the presence of members of the Committee, the families of the officers who were sentenced in a case of negligence in their duties to protect the Swedish Embassy building in Baghdad.

The committee heard, according to the parliamentary department’s statement, the demands of the families to reconsider the ruling on their sons, the officers who were executing the orders assigned to them by the Ministry of the Interior, especially restraint and dealing with caution with the demonstrators in front of the Swedish embassy. We hope that the committee will seek justice for the officers who were subjected to unfairness by the decision.

In turn, the head of the committee confirmed that there was injustice done to the officers by the court’s decision, indicating that the committee will follow up on the matter, especially the ruling in the Court of Cassation.

The committee recommended opening an investigation into the matter and following up on the progress of the procedures, as a result of which a ruling was issued and the officers were convicted.

The committee decided to visit the officers in their detention centers to see their conditions on the ground and listen to them about the details of the matter.
