The Parliament votes on two laws

The House of Representatives voted in its eighteenth session, which was held under the chairmanship of Muhammad Al-Halbousi, Speaker of the Council, and in the presence of (206) MPs today, on two draft laws.

At the beginning of the session, MP Harim Kamal read a statement on the occasion of the anniversary of the death of the late President Jalal Talabani, praising his long struggle, during which he played a distinguished role in consolidating the foundations of democracy and peaceful living.

The Council then read Surat Al-Fatihah as a tribute to the soul of former President of the Republic of Iraq, Jalal Talabani.

The Council concluded voting on the draft law on statistics and geographic information systems submitted by the Strategic Planning Committee and the Federal Service to organize statistical work in the Republic of Iraq and to keep pace with developments in this field. An Authority for Statistics and Geographic Information Systems was established to undertake tasks related to the statistical process.

The House of Representatives postponed voting on the draft law on the National Nuclear, Radiological, Chemical and Biological Regulatory Authority, submitted by the Health and Environment Committees, and the Higher Education and Scientific Research Committees.

The Council voted on the draft law for the Republic of Iraq’s ratification of the Arab Convention to Prevent and Combat Human Cloning, submitted by the Foreign Relations Committee, in order to prevent and combat human cloning, detect it in all its forms and types, and all other crimes related to it, prosecute its perpetrators, strengthen Arab cooperation in this field, and address criminalization and punishment for all cases of Human cloning.

The Parliament decided to adjourn the session until next Wednesday.
