TGA Announces Call for Nominations for Nextwave Maritime Training Program in Cooperation with Bahri, IMO

Riyadh: In cooperation with the National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia (Bahri) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the Transport General Authority (TGA) has announced the call for nominations for maritime cadets from Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and Least Developed Countries (LDCs) to participate in the Nextwave Pilot Training Program for the 2025-2026 cycle.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the program aims to enable 20 male and female cadets to gain practical six-month onboard training aboard Saudi vessels operated by Bahri, equipping them with the necessary sea time and experience required for professional certification. The initiative is fully funded by the TGA and Bahri, covering all associated costs, including accommodation, monthly stipends, airfare, visas, and daily allowances.

Participating countries are encouraged to nominate one male and one female cadet to promote gender balance and inclusivity within the maritime sector.

The release added that the initiative represents a strategic step towards addressing key challenges cadets face in SIDS and LDCs, such as limited access to shipboard training and the high costs associated with maritime certification. Through comprehensive financial and practical support, the program seeks to offer sustainable and effective solutions.

It also contributes to establishing a long-term, inclusive model for global maritime training, in line with the Kingdom’s commitment to developing human capital and enhancing international cooperation in the maritime sector.

Bahri, as a strategic partner, plays a pivotal role in the program’s success. Through its advanced fleet and long-standing expertise in supporting maritime talent, Bahri offers a world-class training environment. This collaboration aims to equip the next generation of seafarers with the skills and experience needed to thrive in the global maritime industry.
