Riyadh: The leadership of Saudi Arabia places great importance on parliamentary diplomacy, recognizing the crucial role the Shura Council plays in strengthening foreign relations and expanding international cooperation. This support enables the council to perform its duties effectively, both locally and globally, by equipping it to participate in international conferences and meetings.
According to Saudi Press Agency, this backing has strengthened the Shura Council’s presence and helped it build bridges of cooperation with parliaments and legislative bodies worldwide, reflecting the Kingdom’s commitment to dialogue and the exchange of views, which serve national interests and enhance its global presence.
The Shura Council’s diplomatic activities are evident in its participation in regional and international forums, visits from parliamentary friendship committees, and its reception of foreign delegations. The council has also been active in several international conferences, including meetings of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States, the Arab Parliament, and the G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit.
The council’s diplomatic efforts saw a significant increase in the first year of its ninth session. It conducted 41 mutual parliamentary and diplomatic visits, participated in 42 meetings of parliamentary unions, and held 63 activities through its parliamentary friendship committees. These initiatives highlight the Kingdom’s official positions, showcase its legislative and developmental achievements, and reinforce its positive image in the international community.
