Baku: The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY), in collaboration with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), signed an agreement to commence the second phase of the Adequate Housing project. This agreement was finalized during the 13th session of the World Urban Forum in Azerbaijan, reflecting Saudi Arabia's commitment to supporting sustainable urban development and improving living conditions in Yemen.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the second phase of the project builds on the achievements of its initial phase, which concluded in September 2024. The first phase significantly improved the living conditions for over 4,500 beneficiaries by rehabilitating 650 housing units. It also generated job opportunities, provided training, and enhanced the capacities of national cadres in housing and construction sectors.
The ongoing phase aims to rehabilitate 760 housing units for low-income families, focusing on creating a suitable living environment by repairing damaged homes and upgrading their facilities. This phase targets three Yemeni governorates: Aden, Taiz, and Lahij, and is expected to benefit approximately 4,560 individuals from 760 families.
The project will also provide vocational training to 220 unemployed youths, equipping them with specialized skills, and will qualify around 50 technical personnel within government entities. This effort is intended to bolster local capacities in housing rehabilitation across the targeted regions.
