Riyadh: The Saudi Lacrosse Federation (SLF) has unveiled a new visual identity and launched its strategy for the coming years at a ceremony at the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Olympic Complex in Riyadh, attended by heads of sports federations, board members, and national team players.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the SLF said the launch opens a new chapter, aimed at establishing lacrosse in Saudi Arabia, expanding the player base, identifying talent, developing men and women players, and building national teams able to compete at regional, continental, and international levels.
The strategy rests on promoting the sport, running school and community programs, developing technical and coaching pathways, and increasing women's participation, alongside strengthening governance and partnerships with the public and private sectors.
Priorities include developing the men's and women's national teams, setting up three regional under-16 boys' teams and one regional under-16 girls' team, expanding talent identification, and building a base of players, coaches, and referees.
The national team will compete at the 2026 Asia-Pacific Sixes Lacrosse Championships at Sunshine Coast Stadium in Queensland, Australia, from October 5 to 10. The event is a qualifier for the 2027 World Lacrosse Sixes Championships.
The senior team is also due to play at the Asian Championship in Malaysia in April 2027, and the under-16 team at the Asian Championship in the People's Republic of China in June 2027.
SLF Board of Directors Chairman Fahad Al-Muammar said the launch marks a move to a more organized and ambitious phase, built on clear objectives and measurable programs. "Today, we are not merely launching a new identity; we are launching a new era for lacrosse in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia," he said. "Our ambition is to build a sustainable ecosystem that begins in schools and the community, giving male and female players a clear pathway for development and competition, leading to national teams capable of proudly representing the Kingdom on continental and international stages."
Al-Muammar said the strategy depends on working with the Ministry of Sport, the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, sports federations, educational institutions, and the private sector, and that he hoped for partnerships that would popularize the sport, develop national talent, and deliver lasting sporting and social impact.
