Saudi Arabia Tops Region in UN E-Government Development Index 2024

Riyadh: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has achieved a remarkable milestone in digital governance, soaring 25 places in the UN E-Government Development Index 2024 to rank first regionally, second among G20 countries, and sixth globally out of 193 nations. Revealed during LEAP25 conference, these advancements reflect the Kingdom’s rapid digital transformation across government agencies.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the UN report commended Saudi Arabia’s adoption of cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain, citing key initiatives such as the world’s first zero-carbon 5G network in the Red Sea, “Sehhaty” application that serves over 30 million users, generative AI accelerator and global cloud computing partnerships, and smart cities initiatives that utilize AI for municipal services.

Furthermore, the city of Riyadh secured third place globally and first regionally and among G20 countries in the E-Government Development Index 2024. The report recognized Riyadh’s smart city initiatives, including AI-powered cameras and efforts to improve the urban landscape through technology.

The Digital Government Authority plays a crucial role in driving this transformation. By establishing national performance indicators and implementing programs to enhance the digital environment, the authority enables government agencies to deliver exceptional digital services.

This substantial progress underscores the Kingdom’s commitment to developing advanced digital services, enhancing government efficiency, and empowering citizens and residents through digital transformation.
