Riyadh: The Roads General Authority (RGA) announced the implementation of road surface improvement technology as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance traffic safety and extend the operational life of roads without reconstruction, in line with its strategy to adopt the latest global technologies in the roads sector and promote innovation.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the RGA noted that the new technology is considered an advanced preventive maintenance method, as it improves the condition of asphalt pavement without the need for full resurfacing. The technology is applied using a 'cold' process, placing a thin layer of asphalt emulsion, high-quality fine aggregate, water, and chemical additives, which are mixed and laid directly with specialized equipment.
The technology aims to address the current condition of roads, enhance skid resistance, and seal surface cracks, contributing to extending the road's operational life and raising safety levels for users.
The authority highlighted the multiple advantages of the new technology, foremost among them its rapid implementation, which minimizes the impact on traffic flow. It is also an environmentally friendly technique that does not require heating, reducing the consumption of materials and energy, lowering carbon emissions, and supporting RGA's sustainability objectives. In addition, it improves the overall appearance and surface uniformity of roads, lowers future maintenance costs, and achieves economic efficiency.
