Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, participated in the 47th Annual Ministerial Meeting of the Group of 77 and China (G77+China), which was held today in New York on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 78).

Addressing the meeting, the Undersecretary for Political Affairs stressed the keenness of the Kingdom of Bahrain to promote international multilateral cooperation in accordance with the principles of international law, mutual respect and dialogue to consolidate international peace, security and respect for human rights, meet the aspirations of peoples for development and prosperity and achieve the 2030 sustainable development goals.

He noted that the Kingdom of Bahrain supports international efforts to end wars and regional and international conflicts through diplomatic means, and reduce their causes, stressing its support for states and international organisations to shoulder their responsibilities to achieve security, stability, peace, sustainable development and prosperity for all, without anyone being left behind, and for effective international partnership in facing common challenges and risks related to climate change, food security crises, poverty, knowledge gap and the digital divide.

He reviewed the prospects for cooperation and coordination with the G77 and China, in light of the outcomes of the Havana Summit of Heads of State and Government on "Current Development Challenges: the Role of Science, Technology and Innovation", and ways to transform the challenges facing developing countries into real job opportunities through the consolidation of efforts, capacities and capabilities in a way that contributes to peace, stability and comprehensive and sustainable development in a more just global economic order.

The G77 and China is the largest intergovernmental organisation for developing countries in the United Nations, founded in June 1964. It currently includes 134 developing countries, representing 80% of the world's population. The current session is chaired by the Republic of Cuba. The Group aims to defend the economic interests of those countries, promote their bargaining power on international economic issues within the Organisation, and provide fair and sustainable solutions to pressing global challenges.
