Baghdad -Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani stressed the necessity of opening safe corridors to deliver urgent humanitarian aid to the besieged people of Gaza.
The Prime Minister's Media Office said in a statement, "Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani met today, Saturday, with the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sanchez, on the sidelines of his participation in the Cairo Summit 2023, held to discuss developments in the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories."
The statement added, "During the meeting, they discussed the current events in the Gaza Strip and the deteriorating humanitarian conditions as a result of the continued Israeli aggression in killing civilians and targeting their homes."
The Prime Minister reiterated Iraq's position in which he stressed the danger of the ongoing escalation in Gaza, and that what the Palestinians did was a natural result of years of siege, persecution, and aggression practiced by the Zionist occupation forces, and led to the Palestinian people losing their confidence in international institutions that were standing by and watching the violations of International laws and resolutions, stressing the necessity of opening safe corridors to deliver urgent humanitarian aid to the besieged people of Gaza.
For his part, Sanchez thanked the Prime Minister for the efforts made by Iraq in this crisis, stressing the importance of continuing dialogue and communication among all in order to achieve peace, and expressing his country’s readiness to support Iraq’s efforts to calm the situation, especially the Iraqi initiative aimed at a ceasefire and lifting the siege of the Gaza Strip./End
