Over 9,000 People from 137 Countries Bid Farewell to MENA Climate Week

More than 9,000 people hailing from 137 countries bid farewell to the MENA Climate Week 2023 in Riyadh, which concluded Thursday after engaging in 240 dialogue sessions.

Welcoming the large number of guests through five busy days, MENACW 2023 recorded the largest attendance ever in the regional climate weeks held by the United Nations globally.

Several students, entrepreneurs, and environmental enthusiasts from around the world who attended MENACW 2023 emphasized the attractiveness, centrality, and global empowerment witnessed through the well-organized gathering.

In remarks to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Shadi Khalil, an environmental negotiation enthusiast from Egypt, said Riyadh has become an important international venue for discussing the transition to renewable energy. Riyadh has also become a place for discussions on setting standards and criteria for the region's needs and supporting the energy empowerment project at the international level, he added.

Khalil highlighted the outstanding scientific outcomes revealed during the meetings and seminars attended by experts and enthusiasts.

Vijit, a student from the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management at the University of Cape Coast in Ghana, conveyed her immense happiness with her first visit to the Kingdom and the warm hospitality she and her colleagues received.

She described MENACW 2023 as an opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences through speeches, sessions, and workshops held on sustainability, ecotourism, reduction of gas emissions, climate-change impacts, and renewable resources utilization.

Ehsan Al-Marwani from Casablanca, Morocco said the climate week witnessed rich discussions on carbon markets and climate issues. She added that she benefited from the experiences of other countries regarding joint climate challenges as well as the work on developmental projects dedicated to climate issues.
