Cairo: A three-day symposium on 'Border Governance During Major Events' kicked off Wednesday in Cairo, organized by Naif Arab University for Security Sciences (NAUSS) in cooperation with the Egyptian Police Academy and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

According to Saudi Press Agency, the symposium brings together experts and specialists from Arab countries, along with representatives of relevant regional and international organizations. In his opening remarks, NAUSS President Dr. Abdulmajeed Al-Banyan emphasized that migration governance and border management are priorities at both the regional and international levels. He highlighted their direct political, economic, social and security implications for countries' stability and development.

Dr. Al-Banyan noted that developments and changes across the Arab region require stronger scientific and practical efforts to develop policies and mechanisms capable of addressing these complex challenges. These efforts should balance security, humanitarian, and development considerations.

The symposium aims to discuss the latest trends and practices in border governance during major events, showcase relevant international and regional experiences, and strengthen cooperation and knowledge sharing among the relevant authorities. These efforts aim to contribute to the development of policies and institutional capacities to support border management, address growing patterns of human mobility, and enhance countries' preparedness to meet related challenges.
