Makkah: The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing, represented by the Holy Makkah Municipality, removed more than 16,000 tons of waste from the holy sites during the 1447 AH Hajj season, averaging over 200 tons daily as part of extensive cleaning and environmental sanitation efforts aimed at maintaining a healthy environment for pilgrims.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the ecosystem relied on more than 88,000 cleaning units distributed across the holy sites, supported by 123 waste compactors, 45,000 containers, 1,235 compacting bins, and over 3,000 vehicles and machines deployed in field operations.
More than 22,000 workers, inspectors, and staff participated in the efforts, while environmental sanitation operations covered over 46,000 locations across Makkah and the holy sites, including spraying, preventive treatment, and disinfection of high-density areas. Field teams also carried out rapid rehabilitation of Mina after pilgrims were dispatched to Arafat, ensuring uninterrupted municipal services and readiness for pilgrims' return.
