Municipalities Ministry Completes Major Road Infrastructure Projects for Hajj Season

Makkah: The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing has successfully completed the preparation of road and infrastructure systems in Makkah and the holy sites as part of its operational plan for the 1447 AH Hajj season. This initiative involved a series of development works and field interventions to enhance traffic flow and improve mobility efficiency in high-density areas.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the ministry's completed works included the implementation of over 11 million linear metres of roads and the rehabilitation and development of nearly 74 million square metres of road surfaces. Additionally, the plan involved paving more than 1.2 million square metres, aimed at enhancing the readiness of the traffic network and supporting mobility efficiency in Makkah and the holy sites during the Hajj season.

The ministry further stated that the initiative also encompassed raising the readiness of 123 bridges and 44 tunnels for pedestrians and vehicles, along with infrastructure improvement works linked to movement routes. These efforts are expected to contribute significantly to traffic safety and improved mobility efficiency in vital areas and around the holy sites.

The ministry confirmed that these developments are part of a comprehensive operational system designed to improve the efficiency of municipal infrastructure, enhance traffic flow, and reduce congestion points in areas experiencing high density during the Hajj season.
