Makkah: The National Center for Meteorology (NCM) completed enhancing its operational and technical readiness for the holy month of Ramadan 1447 AH through a comprehensive plan that strengthened the accuracy of geographical coverage and technical capabilities in Makkah and Madinah, particularly within the areas of the Two Holy Mosques and the roads leading to them.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the aim is to provide around-the-clock weather data, improve monitoring efficiency, and forecast potential weather phenomena, thereby supporting the relevant authorities and enhancing the safety and comfort of visitors to the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque.
NCM Chief Executive Dr. Ayman bin Salem Ghulam indicated that the center's readiness for the season has been fully completed. He affirmed the continued coordination and close follow-up with the various relevant entities, and the implementation of an operational plan that ensures around-the-clock monitoring of weather conditions in Makkah and Madinah, as well as at airports, border crossings, and highways leading to them, using the latest meteorological technologies and programs.
During the Ramadan season, the operational plan focuses on issuing special meteorological bulletins, providing accurate coverage of weather conditions at the Two Holy Mosques, and displaying forecasts along the roads through guidance boards.
In addition, real-time weather information and ten-day extended forecasts are made available via the 'Anwaa' application, with technical integration to smart applications such as 'Nusuk' and 'Tawakkalna,' to facilitate access to information for beneficiaries.
The plan also included enhancing performance levels at the NCM's observatories located in the Kingdom's airports to ensure aviation safety and effectively manage the expected increase in flight traffic during the holy month.
Additionally, 14 media platforms have been mobilized to guarantee swift delivery of information and weather alerts, thereby raising awareness and preparedness and contributing to the achievement of the highest standards of security and safety.
