King Abdulaziz Palace in Al-Kharj Stands as Historic Landmark Reflecting Unification Journey

Al-kharj: King Abdulaziz Historical Palace, known as ‘Mushrif Palace,’ in Al-Kharj stands as a living testament to the attention given by the Kingdom’s Founder King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud to the governorate and as a prominent national landmark reflecting the strategic and civilizational importance of Al-Kharj during the early stages of the Kingdom’s unification.

According to Saudi Press Agency, King Abdulaziz ordered the construction of the palace in 1359 AH (1940) to serve as a venue for state affairs and as a center for receiving official delegations. It was built in two phases: the western section designated for hospitality and meetings, and the eastern section prepared as a residence and summer retreat for the King and his family, connected by a passage known as ‘Matla Al-Sayyarah,’ stretching nearly 160 meters.

The palace covers an area of about 1,725 square meters, consisting of a ground floor, an upper floor, and a rooftop. Built with mudbrick, tamarisk wood, and palm fronds, its walls were decorated with gypsum and traditional engravings, embodying the local architectural styles of that era. The palace features multiple suites and guest rooms and was a destination for delegations and princes received by King Abdulaziz during his visits to Al-Kharj.

The palace, with its symbolic historical value, reflects the Founder King’s keenness on Al-Kharj, its agricultural and economic significance, and its strategic location near the capital, reinforcing early development. It remains a landmark that bears witness to a pivotal foundational stage in the nation’s history.

On the occasion of the Kingdom’s 95th National Day, King Abdulaziz Palace in Al-Kharj stands out as one of the symbols of unity and nation-building, a source of national memory narrating to present generations the greatness of what was built during the unification era, as the Kingdom today advances with an ambitious vision toward a more prosperous future.
