KACST and Maxar Collaborate to Boost Saudi Arabia’s Space Capabilities

Riyadh: King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) and Maxar Intelligence company have entered into a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing Saudi Arabia’s capabilities in the space sector. The agreement focuses on providing space data and direct satellite access to foster innovation in the Kingdom’s space initiatives.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the agreement was signed during U.S. President Donald Trump’s official visit, marking a significant step in leveraging space technologies to support scientific research and development in Saudi Arabia. The collaboration is set to aid in improving decision-making processes in various sectors, including urban planning, disaster management, and sustainable agriculture.

Dr. Majid Albahkali, general manager of KACST Institute of Earth and Space Sciences, stated that the partnership with Maxar aligns with the Kingdom’s vision for a future-oriented economy. He highlighted its role in developing smarter infrastructure through advanced geospatial intelligence, benefiting both government and commercial sectors. This collaboration is expected to open new investment opportunities within the space data sector while supporting sustainable development initiatives using cutting-edge space technologies.

Anders Linder, general manager of Maxar’s international government division, described the partnership as a reflection of the shared aspirations between KACST and Maxar for geospatial information. He reiterated the company’s dedication to enhancing the space technology capabilities of its partners, noting KACST’s early adoption of Maxar’s latest innovations.
