Alula: AlUla draws attention during International Dark Sky Week, running from April 13 to 20, 2026, as an ideal astrotourism destination, given its pristine night skies ranked among the world's best for observing celestial bodies.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) continues its efforts to protect the night environment through an integrated approach to reducing light pollution and developing astronomical tourism, in line with DarkSky International's objectives to preserve the night sky worldwide.
This commitment is reflected in the official accreditation of several AlUla sites as internationally recognized Dark Sky Places. Sharaan Nature Reserve and Wadi Nakhlah Nature Reserve were recently designated, building on the 2024 accreditation of AlUla Manara and AlGharameel Nature Reserve-the first such sites in the Kingdom and the Gulf region-bringing AlUla's total of protected sites to join more than 250 locations worldwide protected from light pollution, reinforcing its standing as a leading destination for night sky preservation and astronomical tourism.
The RCU affirmed its commitment to protecting the natural environment, preserving the night sky, and promoting sustainable tourism, further positioning AlUla as an international center for astronomy and advanced environmental experiences, in line with Saudi Vision 2030 targets.
