Environmental Diversity in Al-Jouf Boosts Photographers’ Competitiveness in Capturing Migratory Birds

Riyadh: Environmental diversity across the Kingdom provides promising opportunities that drive photographers to document bird migration and the habitats of local bird species in various regions.

According to Saudi Press Agency, photographer Nader Al-Shammari reviewed his experience documenting local and migratory birds, which began in 2011, focusing on monitoring birds in Al-Jouf Region, as well as previous trips to Aseer Region and birdwatching experiences outside the Kingdom. He noted that he has recorded more than 230 bird species in Al-Jouf, out of a total of 507 documented in Saudi Arabia.

Regarding the environment of Al-Jouf Region, Al-Shammari added that the region, with its geographic diversity and ideal climate, is considered a strategic location along bird migration routes, where birds head to mountains, deserts, inland waters, and agricultural areas. Through photography, migratory and visiting birds-whose stay in the Kingdom lasts several months-are documented. Monitoring efforts have also recorded some of the most well-known and rare birds in Al-Jouf Region, including the wood pigeon and greater hoopoe lark.
