Economic and Social Council Preparatory Meetings to Begin in Egypt Tomorrow

The preparatory meetings for the 114th session of the Economic and Social Council are slated to start tomorrow at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo. The session, scheduled to take place at ministerial level on September 5, will be chaired by the UAE and will focus on increasing Arab economic and social cooperation. The Social Committee will convene to address several critical topics, including the Arab Strategy for Lifelong Learning, the role of social support in promoting equity and equal learning opportunities, the Second Arab Decade for Literacy and Adult Education, and Arab-international collaboration in social development. Discussions will also cover the Culture and Green Future Initiative, and a proposal to establish volunteer centers for youths and retirees to support the elderly. The Economic Committee will meet on September 2 and 3 to review key economic issues. Among them, the Arab Food Security Status Report for 2023, progress on the Arab Program for Food Security Sustainability, the Ar ab Sustainable Agricultural Development Strategy (2020-2030), the Arab Strategy for Sustainable Management of Pastoral Resources (2020-2040), and the Arab Aquaculture Strategy (2018-2037). Also on the agenda are the "Madak" Space Initiative and a proposal to establish the Arab Housing and Reconstruction Bank. The preparatory meetings will culminate with a session of the Economic and Social Council at senior officials' level on September 4, followed by a meeting of Arab Finance and Economy Ministers on September 5.
