The death toll following an explosion in a city near the capital of the Dominican Republic has climbed to 25, Agence France-Presse reported Wednesday, citing emergency services.

The blast Monday was at a bakery in San Cristobal, near Santo Domingo, and the resulting fire spread to nearby stores in a busy downtown neighborhood.
