Council of Economic and Development Affairs Reviews Economic and Safety Progress via Video Conference

Damascus: The Council of Economic and Development Affairs: held a meeting via video conference to discuss a variety of topics critical to the Kingdom's economic and developmental objectives. The session included a review of the Ministry of Economy and Planning's monthly report, which outlined significant developments in the global economic landscape and their potential effects on the national economy. The report also identified opportunities to enhance the Kingdom's position as a key economic and logistical power in the region.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the report emphasized the resilience of the Kingdom's economy, highlighting the adaptability of its logistics system to global changes. It noted the positive impact of national policies on growth rates, including maintaining one of the lowest global inflation rates and achieving a trade surplus driven by export growth. These factors support the Kingdom's development efforts in line with Saudi Vision 2030.

The National Center for Performance Measurement (Adaa) provided a quarterly presentation on the performance of public entities for the first quarter of 2026. This included the performance of government agency indicators and initiatives within Vision 2030's framework. The presentation detailed Adaa's role in measuring national strategies and monitoring agency contributions to these strategies. Results indicated an improvement in the percentage of initiatives on track and completed by government agencies compared to the last quarter of 2025. Efforts to support these agencies, address challenges, and monitor corrective plans continue.

The council also discussed the annual report from the ministerial committee for traffic safety. This report highlighted traffic safety as a vital component of health transformation and Vision 2030's strategic objectives. It reviewed traffic accident data trends, strategic performance indicators for 2025, and the targets set for 2027. The report showcased the achievements in traffic safety, noting a significant reduction in traffic accident fatality rates-exceeding 60% in 2025 compared to 2016. These improvements reflect the support and guidance of the leadership and collaborative efforts within the system.

Additionally, the meeting covered procedural matters, including draft organizational arrangements for the industrial council, health monitoring during the Umrah season, and the Kingdom's participation in the 2026 World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos. Other topics included reports from the Digital Government Authority on government entities' performance in the United Nations E-Government Development Index, and the national framework committee's work on governance, risk, compliance, and internal audits.

The council made necessary decisions and recommendations on these matters.
