“Climate Week” in Riyadh discusses international efforts to confront climate challenges

Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Saudi Minister of Energy, opened today “Climate Week in the Middle East and North Africa for the year 2023”, which Saudi Arabia is hosting in the city of Riyadh, in coordination and cooperation with the secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, During the period from 23 to 27 Rabi’ al-Awwal 1445 AH, corresponding to the period from 8 to 12 October 2023.

In his speech at the opening ceremony, the Minister of Energy, on behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and his Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, welcomed the Kingdom’s guests participating in the “Middle East and North Africa Climate Week 2023” in Riyadh, Praising the ambitious efforts of the Kingdom’s young men and women towards confronting the effects of climate change to build a better future for themselves, their country, and the entire world.

The Saudi Minister of Energy said: “The Kingdom is pleased to host the second edition of Climate Week for the Middle East and North Africa region, whose hosting reflects the Kingdom’s firm commitment to joint work to discuss all solutions that will help confront the climate challenges we are witnessing today.”

He explained that Climate Week for the Middle East and North Africa region will address topics of accelerating climate action and comprehensive approaches to dealing with climate change, including the circular carbon economy approach, which encourages the employment of available technologies and the use of different forms of energy, and supports seizing all opportunities that contribute to reducing Carbon emissions, which helps achieve climate goals For his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Sameh Shoukry, stressed in his speech the importance of holding “Climate Week” in the Middle East region and its countries, explaining that the outcomes that result from it carry many participatory and cooperative principles related to climate principles, sharing responsibilities, as well as compatibility with... Climatic conditions.

He stated that “Climate Week” highlights the basic elements related to climate change and the development of action plans. It also emphasizes the importance of unifying joint efforts so that everyone can be part of the solutions and build capabilities.

For his part, the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates, Suhail Al Mazrouei, addressed the climate challenges and difficulties facing the entire world, indicating the importance and essentiality of energy in people’s lives, and in confronting these challenges, he said: “We cannot stop the energy system that we are dealing with today.” “Before we build a new system for the future, and before we have sustainable energy.”

For his part, Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Simon Steele, said: “The Middle East and North Africa region stands at a crossroads, as it not only faces the devastating effects of climate change, but also faces the challenge of transforming its economies, to ensure prosperity in A world aligned with a temperature rise of one and a half degrees Celsius.”

He pointed out that Climate Week in the Middle East and North Africa region provides a platform to highlight regional solutions and innovations, which paves the way for enhancing cooperation between countries, sectors and specializations.
