Hail: Hail Region has achieved a significant agricultural milestone with the launch of the Kingdom's first white strawberry harvest, making Saudi Arabia the third country in the world to produce this rare variety, following the United States and Japan. This achievement reflects the advanced development of the Kingdom's agricultural sector and its ability to adopt modern technologies to introduce high-value, economically and nutritionally rich varieties.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the production of white strawberries represents a qualitative addition to the region's agriculture. Known globally for their rarity, unique taste, and high market value, these strawberries have thrived in Hail due to the region's suitable natural resources and advanced irrigation infrastructure. This success demonstrates local farms' ability to compete internationally by adopting cutting-edge agricultural practices.
One of the farm owners in Hail said that this production is the result of an exclusive agreement with the University of Florida to experiment with the variety in Saudi Arabia. He noted that the white strawberry is produced through a specialized process in which red strawberry flowers are pollinated with pineapple flowers in laboratories, extending the ripening period from flowering to harvest by 30 days.
Beyond agriculture, these farms have enhanced Hail's appeal as a tourist destination. By offering an integrated experience that combines high-quality produce with interactive activities, the strawberry farms are attracting visitors from within Saudi Arabia and abroad, further stimulating the region's agricultural and tourism economies.
