White Marble Enhances Moderate Climate for Worshippers in Courtyards of Prophet’s Mosque

Medina: Natural white marble covers the open areas of the Prophet’s Mosque’s outer courtyards and its roof, serving as a key element in maintaining a relatively moderate temperature. This is due to the marble’s ability to reflect sunlight, which helps keep the courtyards cool.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque noted that the natural white marble used in the Prophet’s Mosque courtyards is known for its durability and high quality. It is well-suited for large, open spaces, preventing heat absorption and retaining coolness, which contributes to creating a comfortable environment for worshippers. These courtyards are also covered with carpets throughout the marble-covered areas to accommodate a larger number of worshippers, enabling them to perform prayer in moderate climate at all times.

The authority stressed that the expansion phases of the Prophet’s Mosque focused on creating a worship-friendly atmosphere for worshippers. This included utilizing the western, northern, and southern courtyards and covering them with white Thassos marble. Also, 250 automatically operated umbrellas have been installed across the courtyards to shield worshippers from weather elements and heat. These efforts support a safe and comfortable environment for a large number of worshippers as part of the Kingdom’s comprehensive initiatives to serve pilgrims visiting the Two Holy Mosques.
