Vice Minister of Media and Google MENA Managing Director Discuss Strategic Partnership

Riyadh:Vice Minister of Media Abdullah Al-Maghlouth met with Google Managing Director for the Middle East and North Africa, Anthony Nakache, to discuss enhancing the strategic partnership between the Ministry of Media and Google. The discussions focused on expanding cooperation to bolster Saudi Arabia's media sector.

According to Saudi Press Agency, The meeting, aligned with directives from Minister of Media Salman Al-Dossary, also aimed at strengthening the sector's technological and competitive capabilities in line with Saudi Vision 2030. Key topics included joint initiatives in artificial intelligence, digital skills development, and empowering media entities and content creators.

Both parties emphasized enhancing digital safety, particularly for children, as a priority. They identified steps to equip children, parents, and teachers with essential skills for safe and responsible navigation of the digital world.

Further discussions explored developing specialized programs to accelerate the adoption of AI technologies in media organizations, upskilling national professionals, and supporting content creators and Saudi talent. They also considered launching media innovation initiatives and practical use cases for emerging technologies in newsrooms.

Al-Maghlouth highlighted Saudi Arabia's view of rapid changes in the media and technology sectors as opportunities to build a competitive and influential media industry. He stressed the importance of partnerships with global tech companies for knowledge transfer, national capacity building, and facilitating innovation, while creating growth and investment opportunities in the sector.

Al-Maghlouth stated that the aim is for Saudi Arabia not just to keep pace with the future of media, but to help shape it, citing the country's national talent, growing market, advanced digital infrastructure, and strategic investments. He emphasized the real opportunity to build a media model integrating creativity, technology, and AI, enhancing Saudi content's global reach and impact.

The next phase of the partnership will focus on transforming cooperation into initiatives with tangible impacts, improving media readiness, empowering national talent, developing the content economy, and reinforcing Saudi Arabia's role as a regional hub for media and technology innovation. This meeting is part of the ministry's broader effort to sustain a competitive media sector capable of adapting to global shifts and influencing the industry's future.
