UN Mission to El Fasher Reveals ‘Shocking’ and ‘Degrading’ Living Conditions for Civilians

El fasher: The United Nations Resident Coordinator for Sudan, Denise Brown, shared alarming insights on Monday about the conditions faced by civilians in El Fasher, located in western Sudan. Brown described the living circumstances as 'shocking' and noted that residents are enduring 'degrading and unsafe' environments.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Brown's observations came after she returned from a visit to El Fasher. A mission from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) gained access to the city on Friday, marking the first entry in two months. This was achieved after what Brown referred to as 'arduous negotiations' following the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) taking control of the area.

Brown highlighted the dire situation, stating, 'These people are living in extremely precarious conditions. Some are staying in abandoned buildings, while others are living in rudimentary shelters without sanitation or water. These are degrading and unsafe conditions for the people.'
