Riyadh: The Syrian Arab Republic today welcomed the unanimous adoption by the United Nations Human Rights Council, for the second consecutive year, of a resolution titled 'Supporting Human Rights in the Syrian Arab Republic.' The resolution was crafted to enhance the country's human rights landscape.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates expressed the government's appreciation for the constructive approach and cooperation of the sponsoring states and their efforts in drafting the resolution. The ministry stated that the resolution signifies an evolving approach by the council toward the country, emphasizing the complementarity between the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic and national efforts.
The resolution acknowledges the practical steps taken by the government to improve human rights, including decrees related to Kurdish rights, transitional justice committees, parliamentary elections, and collaboration with United Nations mechanisms. These efforts are seen as significant strides towards enhancing the human rights framework within the country.
