UN Ends Political Mission in Somalia After Three Decades

Mogadishu:The United Nations has declared the conclusion of its political mission in Somalia after 31 years of involvement. This decision comes in response to a request from the Somali government and aligns with UN Security Council resolutions. The mission's closure follows the successful transfer of its responsibilities to Somali institutions and UN agencies operating within the country.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Raisedon Zenenga, Officer-in-Charge of the United Nations Transitional Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS), emphasized that the closure does not signify the end of the partnership between the United Nations and Somalia. Instead, it marks the beginning of a new phase of cooperation.

Zenenga highlighted that Somalia has achieved significant progress in rebuilding its institutions and strengthening its capacities, a development attributed to the international efforts supporting the country's recovery over the past decades.
