Abha: Yesterday, Abha hosted the latest edition of the Ma’alem Marathon, organized by the Ministry of Sport’s Aseer branch. The event brought together 2,496 participants of various nationalities and ages for a sporting, cultural, and social occasion that promoted healthy living while showcasing Aseer Region’s natural and cultural landmarks.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Abha was selected to host this edition of the marathon due to its reputation as one of the Kingdom’s premier tourist destinations. Known for its environmental and cultural diversity and mild climate, Abha provides an ideal setting for both sports and tourism events.

The marathon featured three competitive routes of 5, 10, and 21 kilometers, where male and female participants competed amidst an enthusiastic atmosphere, supported by an engaged audience.

This event is part of the traveling Ma’alem Marathon initiative, which aims to highlight the unique features of Saudi cities through sporting, entertainment, and cultural activities. The in
itiative supports domestic tourism, promotes community engagement, and reinforces local identity, contributing to showcasing the Kingdom as a global cultural and sports destination.
