Transport Authority Holds First Annual Seafarers Forum 2024.

Dammam: The Transport General Authority has convened the inaugural annual Seafarers’ Forum in Dammam, Eastern Province, under the theme “Raising Awareness of the Responsibilities of Seafarers and Maritime Partnerships,” aimed to bolster professional development for seafarers, instill a culture of accountability, and foster collaborative relationships among maritime stakeholders from both public and private sectors.

According to Saudi Press Agency, with a workforce exceeding 2,000 Saudi sailors operating across 420 vessels within the Kingdom’s fleet, the forum is set to address critical aspects relating to maritime safety, compliance with international maritime regulations, and the preservation of marine ecosystems. It will emphasize the pivotal role of seafarers in the secure and efficient transportation of goods, in addition to the responsibilities of maritime companies to provide a secure working environment, adequate training, and adherence to safety standards.

The annual forum serves as a vital platform
for the exchange of insights and the establishment of enhanced communication channels among key stakeholders, laying the groundwork for cooperative efforts toward aligned objectives. Forum recommendations include institutionalizing an annual event with plans to schedule the next 2025 edition in Jeddah. The initiative aims to further reinforce collaboration between seafarers and relevant authorities, ultimately contributing to the maritime sector’s sustainability and its integral role in the national economy.
