The President of the Republic, Abd al-Latif Jamal Rashid, stressed the necessity of adhering to the timelines for holding the provincial elections, and not to delay announcing the results.

A presidential statement stated: "The president met today, at the Baghdad Palace, with a delegation of the Independent High Electoral Commission headed by the Chairman of the Council of Commissioners, Judge Omar Ahmed Muhammad."

The President stressed the need to adhere to the timelines for holding the provincial elections, and to put in place the necessary mechanisms to enforce the provisions of the law, and not to delay announcing the results.

He listened to talk about the mechanisms put in place by the Commission for conducting the elections and the stages it took to accomplish this task, and stressed the importance of overcoming the obstacles facing the Commission.

For his part, the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners confirmed that the Commission is fully prepared to hold the elections on time and in all parts of Iraq, except for the provinces of the Kurdistan region for technical reasons, indicating that the region expressed its desire to hold the elections at one time, but technical reasons prevented that.
