Baghdad The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, stressed today, Sunday, the importance of the European Union’s role in providing support to the displaced people.
The media office of the Presidency of the Republic stated, “Rashid received at Baghdad Palace the new head of the European Union mission to Iraq, Thomas Seiler.
At the beginning of the meeting, the President expressed his wishes to the head of the mission for success in his work tasks, stressing the strength of the relations and partnership that brings together Iraq and the European Union, and the importance of expanding the horizons of joint cooperation in a way that serves the interests of the Iraqi people and the peoples of the European Union countries.
He expressed his appreciation for the Union's support for Iraq's efforts to combat terrorism and extremism and enhance security aspects through advice and training, stressing the importance of the European Union's role, especially in the field of providing support to the displaced in the educational, health and living fields. He also called for the need for the international community to continue shouldering its responsibilities in this regard.
The meeting discussed ways to coordinate efforts to confront the repercussions of climate change and its effects on all areas, especially environmental, economic, and agricultural.
For his part, Thomas Seiler stressed the European Union’s support for Iraq in maintaining its security and stability, and its desire to strengthen cooperation with it as an important partner in various political, economic, security and climate fields.
