The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, affirmed today, Monday, Iraq's determination to include a subject in the school curricula that calls for unity and tolerance.

The Presidency of the Republic stated in a statement, "The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received today, at the Baghdad Palace, the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Hussein Ibrahim Taha, and his accompanying delegation."

Rashid stressed, during the meeting, "the importance of existing relations with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation," pointing to "the need to strengthen them and continue joint work and coordination on important issues."

He expressed his support for "convening an Islamic conference to discuss acts offensive to Islam, and to take serious steps to clarify the picture to the countries of the world that terrorism is far from the Islamic religion," welcoming "the opening of a representative of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Baghdad, which reflects Iraq's status as an active and influential member of the organization for what it possesses of a great religious legacy.

He pointed to "the need for the organization to play its role in rejecting extremist ideology, combating and condemning terrorism, following up and rejecting all ideas and practices that offend Islam, and contacting the concerned authorities in various countries to refuse to repeat what happened in Sweden and Denmark."

He stressed, "Iraq's determination to include a subject in the school curricula that calls for unity, tolerance, consolidation of peaceful coexistence and human rights, and the rejection of takfir and ideas that contradict the principles of the Islamic religion," noting that "Iraq fought ISIS gangs and their heinous acts against citizens, especially the Yazidis, in addition to their crimes by bombing and destroying cultural landmarks and terrorizing the innocent citizens.”

For his part, the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation expressed his pleasure at "visiting Baghdad and meeting the President of the Republic," praising "the valuable remarks of the President of the Republic regarding strengthening unity among Islamic countries and reflecting the true image of the Islamic religion."

He stressed the aspiration of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to strengthen relations and coordination with Iraq on issues of mutual interest./ End
