Riyadh: Minister of Transport and Logistic Services Saleh Al-Jasser witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Transport General Authority (TGA) and SAMI Autonomous Company, a subsidiary of Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI), aimed at enhancing cooperation in the field of autonomous vessels and supporting the development of related regulatory and technical frameworks. According to Saudi Press Agency, the MoU was signed by TGA Acting President Dr. Rumaih bin Mohammed Al-Rumaih and SAMI Chief Executive Officer Eng. Thamer bin Mohammed Almuhid. The signing took place on the sidelines of TGA's participation in the World Defense Show 2026, held in Riyadh from February 8 to 12 under the theme 'The Future of Defense Integration' and organized by the General Authority for Military Industries. The MoU seeks to establish a framework for cooperation between TGA and SAMI Autonomous Company in the preparation and development of regulations, standards, and technical requirements relate d to autonomous vessels. This will be in accordance with approved regulatory procedures and aligned with relevant laws and regulations. Additionally, the agreement includes enabling modern technologies related to autonomous vessels and enhancing the exchange of information and expertise in technical and operational aspects. This initiative is an extension of TGA's efforts to keep pace with technological transformations in maritime transport and to strengthen partnerships with the private sector. It aims to create a regulatory environment that supports innovation and advances the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy.
